Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a visit to National Tiger Sanctuary? Here are answers to some of the most common questions guests ask before their tour.

Do you accept donations?

Yes! Visit the Support tab at the top of this page to learn more. Thank you for helping support the animals in our care.

What are your hours?

  • Year-round Wednesday through Sunday
  • Also open Monday & Tuesday during the month of March
  • Tours start at 9 a.m.
  • Last tour goes out at 4 p.m.
  • Gates close at 5:00 p.m.

Are you open on holidays?

Yes for some, no for others.

  • Open: Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day
  • Closed: Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

When are the cats most active or best time to visit?

There is no specific time of day our cats prefer. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best time to plan your visit:

  • Caroling and roaring most often occur at dawn, dusk, and/or on overcast days.
  • Cooler weather is a favorite. Consider a fall or spring visit.

What is your inclement weather policy?

Our facility is 100% outdoor and, just like the postal service, we tour rain, shine, sleet, or snow. In the case of lightning, we return to the gift shop and wait for the storm to pass.

Guests are welcome to reschedule their tour to a different date due to weather concerns. We are also happy to provide a gift certificate to use at a later time. Our sanctuary does not offer refunds.

What tour do kids enjoy most?

Childrenโ€™s enjoyment level depends on their interest level. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right tour for your family:

  • Does your child like to walk? Try a 1/4 mile walking Awareness or Feeding tour.
  • Does your child tire out quickly? Try a riding tour.
  • Is your child really into getting up close and personal? Try a walking Feeding tour.
  • Behind the Scenes is not typically recommended for children. However, older kids who enjoy science and logistics may find it interesting.

How many cats will I see on a tour?

Our residents have the freedom to move between their habitat yards and indoor bedrooms throughout the day as they choose. As a result, the exact number of animals you see may vary from tour to tour. Every visit is unique and offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about the incredible animals in our care.

  • Awareness tours have the opportunity to meet up to 10 big cats from 2 species.
  • Feeding tours have the opportunity to meet up to 12 big cats from 4 species.
  • Riding tours have the opportunity to meet over 23 big cats from 4 species.
  • Special Behind the Scenes guests have the opportunity to meet up to 24 big cats from 4 species.

What if I donโ€™t want to walk? Can I take a tram during a walking tour?

Unfortunately, tram transportation is not available on our walking tours for safety reasons. However, guests using mobility scooters are always welcome and can comfortably participate in our walking tour experiences..

Are pets allowed on tours?

For the safety and well-being of both your pet and our animals, pets are not permitted on sanctuary tours. While we love animals of all kinds, the sights, sounds, and scents of a large cat sanctuary can be stressful and unpredictable for pets.

Do you offer birthday events?

Yes! We offer birthday events at the sanctuary for guests of all ages. For pricing, availability, and additional details, please email ntsgreen@nationaltigersanctuary.org.

Can I pet a cat?

No. We have a healthy respect for the large carnivores that we care for. At no time will there be an opportunity to hold, touch, or pet any of the cats.

Can I bring a stroller, wagon, walker, or wheelchair?

Yes, but some will have better mobility than others on our gravel pathways. Wagons that can be pulled behind typically perform better than strollers. Power/power assist chairs do very well. Traditional walkers are not recommended.

What else is there to do around your sanctuary?

With the purchase of admission, guests get access to our backyard where our observation deck is located. When the observation deck is not reserved, all guests are welcome to bring a sack lunch and enjoy eating while watching a few of our cats.

Do I need to book my tour in advance?

Yes, we strongly recommend booking your tour in advance to ensure availability and secure your preferred date and time. Some tour experiences have limited capacity and may sell out, especially during weekends, holidays, and peak seasons.

Can I take photos and videos during my visit?

Absolutely! Guests are welcome to take photos and videos for personal use during their visit. We encourage you to capture your experience and share your favorite moments while respecting the safety guidelines provided by your tour guide.

What should I wear?

Our tours take place outdoors, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and dressing appropriately for the weather. During warmer months, sunscreen, hats, and bottled water are also recommended to help you enjoy your visit.
