The Beginning
From five beloved sibling tigers to a lifelong mission of rescue, care, conservation, and education.
National Tiger Sanctuary's story began with five remarkable sibling tigersβMax, Vincent, Paul, Dee, and TJ.
Raised from cubs by founders Judy McGee and Keith Kinkade, these five tigers inspired a lifelong commitment to animal welfare, conservation, and education. Through caring for them and witnessing firsthand the challenges facing both captive and wild tigers, Judy and Keith recognized the need for a sanctuary dedicated to providing exceptional care while educating the public about these magnificent animals.
What started with five beloved tigers soon grew into a larger mission. National Tiger Sanctuary became a place where rescued animals could find safety, compassion, and a forever home. Alongside providing quality care, the sanctuary was built to create meaningful educational experiences that connect people with wildlife and inspire stewardship of the natural world.
Today, that mission continues to grow. While the sanctuary remains deeply rooted in its commitment to big cats, it has expanded to care for a variety of rescued animals, each with their own story. Every animal that arrives at National Tiger Sanctuary becomes part of a legacy that began with five tiger cubs and a dream of making a difference.
