Midnight
The sanctuary's playful black leopard
Meet Midnight
Midnight may look like what many people call a black panther, but she is actually a black leopard. Her dark coat comes from a condition known as melanism, which gives her fur its beautiful black appearance.
She is the only declawed cat at National Tiger Sanctuary. Although being declawed can create lifelong challenges, Midnight has never let that stop her from enjoying life and staying active.
A Big Personality
Midnight is known for being playful and outgoing, especially around her favorite staff members. She has earned a reputation as one of the biggest flirts at the sanctuary and loves attention from the people she trusts.
Visitors will often find her relaxing on her elevated cat walk where she can watch everything happening around her.
Built for the Trees
Leopards are exceptional climbers and spend more time in trees than any other big cat species. Their long tails help them balance on narrow branches and move confidently through elevated spaces.
If you're lucky, Midnight may even answer back when you call out to her, showing off her talkative personality.
