July News

Greetings Friends!

Hope your 4th of July festivities were safe and filled with color. The tigers actually enjoy seeing the fireworks, which is always surprising to us since not all of them like strange noises.
We were blessed to have some wonderful interns this year.

Vets

In June, we were honored to hold the Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association Banquet at the sanctuary. It turned out to be a wonderful evening for all involved. We had the chance to meet some wonderful veterinarians and make some new friends. The tigers really enjoyed having the company for the evening and put on quite a show for everyone.

The tigers, as I am sure most of you know, do not enjoy this heat wave. We would wake up and

find Mariah or Sierra already sitting in their pools at 8:30 in the morning. Sometimes they will sit in there together but try not to touch each other or look at each other. Mariah’s new thing is to jump over the pool while playing chase with us.

We would like to correct our last statement in our May Newsletter about the Large Carnivore Bill, the bill, SB 795, passed!  The new law will take effect in January of 2012.

Most of the boys have lost their winter coat except for a bit of scruff around their heads – of course T.J. has lost his entire coat (due to the fact that he is part fish and always in his pool). T.J. is remarkably in great shape; we keep in touch with his doctors at the University of Missouri to keep them updated with his progress. Dee, even though her coat doesn’t get as heavy, has her beautiful summer look which she keeps pristine at all times.  Banshee has decided to spend the better part of the hot day in her house, but after dinner she is out and about, meowing really loud, letting everyone know she is ready to see them.

As for when we are moving…….. somehow we have managed to stay here another month, so as of right now it looks as if we may be here at least through September. One thing for sure is that we will keep giving tours until we leave; we don’t want to miss out on seeing our friends as often as possible while we are here.

Keep checking our website for upcoming events!
